Backyard Romance

If you and your person are social distancing together but want to avoid crowds and other people, there are lots of creative options, such as making nature art together, taking a self-guided tour of your city's street art, or going to a drive-in movie, but if you’re trying to maintain that six-foot distance between you and your person, it can be hard to plan a fun date. That’s why we’ve concocted these creative ideas for social distance dating during the Pandemic right in your own backyard!

Campfire Night

Firewood. Find easy-to-light, long lasting fire logs at your grocery store—no lighter fluid required!

Seating. Lawn chairs or blankets can be placed six feet apart and you’ll still be able to feel the warmth of the fire as well as each other’s company.

Ambiance. Got string lights? Music? Go for it.

Dress. Whatever you’re feeling. Comfy pajamas? Cozy flannels and jeans? You do you.

Food. Make it a meal—Door Dash, take out, homemade chili and roasted hotdogs… Or just snacks—roasted marshmallows, or the campfire favorite—s’mores!

Drink. Hot cocoa or cider? Spiked? Or Maybe wine or some brews. Cheers!

Romance. When the fire dies down, the stars burn brighter. Don’t forget to do a little star gazing with your person.

Home “Drive-in” Theater

Plan ahead. Invest in an inexpensive projector to watch movies in your backyard.

“Silver Screen.” Use a blank, light-colored wall as your screen or hang up a sheet to project the movie onto.

Seating. Simple Lawn chairs or pillows, or if you really want to be comfy, bring some comfy chairs or sofas outside for the night.

Comfort. If it’s cold, dress extra warm and provide blankets, but also consider building a fire or placing a space heater nearby.

Food/drinks. Snacks! Popcorn, candy, and soda are always favorite movie fare, but this is your backyard and you can bring in any concessions you like—Door Dash a meal or make it a potluck. Or take it up a notch with a good bottle of wine and a charcuterie plate.

Film. Whatever you like, of course. But we recommend a romantic one, because when the credits roll and the stars come out, romance will still be floating in the night air.
